Cole Confections!

Well hello there! So much has gone on this week! Monday I got into a baking fix, and decided to make a TON of strawberry cupcakes. Matt refused to eat them all (LOSER!) so we took them to the Army Community Services (ACS) office at Ft. Lee. Along with some chocolate covered strawberries I happened to whip together.

Then my wonderful mother-in-law called and had a brilliant idea! She suggested I start distributing these "donations" with business cards, and maybe someone will call me wanting some treats. I texted my dear Sarah on a name (since she is a genius for these thigns), and that's how Cole Confections was born!

AND I made my first sale yesterday to a wonderful lady in the leasing office - 2 dozen chocolate covered strawberries! YIPPIE!!

That is all for now :) Hopefully the weekend has some great things in store!

Baking and such...

We spent most of the day cleaning. It really gets tough when you're down to those last few boxes and just want to relax.

So, wanting to use my new mixer, I begged Matt to pick a cake for me to bake. Life is rough.

This happens sometimes. We get in these moods where we cook dinner and a homemade dessert, though we often cook dinners together.

Matt decided yellow cake with ganache...which I've been wanting to try since we've been Cake Boss! And it didn't help that we watched a Cake Boss marathon today. We're freakishly addicted to it.

Anywho, the husband ended up making a cheese pizza with red peppers, onions and tomatoes. It was his best yet!

Pizza and cake, not a bad meal, eh? I want to try vegan goods next. WEEEE!

Busch Gardens

Today we made our first Virginian outing. We headed an hour east to Williamsburg and visited Busch Gardens. Admission is free for military :) so we had a blast without having to spend a penny.

And boy, was it a scorcher! But the water rides kept us as cool as humanly possible, and we're not new to heat waves.

Tomorrow night is the free concert at the 17th Street Farmer's Market, and we just found out today they're hosting a Shockoe Tomato Festival on Saturday. There will be sampling and cooking demonstrations...so Matt will probably get drug to that.

As for next week, the possibilities are endless! We could go to Colonial Williamsburg, Jamestown and Yorktown, Virginia Beach, or Washington. All for close to nothing or less, which is AWESOME!!!

So family, friends, go ahead and get your people to get in touch with our people (that would be me) and schedule a visit.

Lovers from Virginia,
Matt and Britt

Settling In with Steel Magnolias

We've been in Virginia for a total of three days and so far we LOVE it!

The boxes are dwindling and the rooms are starting look more like rooms than storage units! Of course the kitchen was the first to be set up :)

So far we have visited Target (twice!) and there is no Walmart near by, so it's practically Heaven. Not to mention there is a Whole Foods on the other side of Richmond! Speaking of that, we didn't realize we are only 14 miles from the city. And on Friday nights they have a free concert at the Farmer's Market called "Red, White and Brew" where local farmers bring out tasty treats and home brew! YIPPIE!!!

I could get used to this city life!

Patton is getting used to the place. I think he misses being able to run out in the yard without a leash, but we've been taking him to play and fetch in the morning, and that makes his day! Plus, he has a new memory foam bed. Yes, he is Prince Patton.

At the moment I am watching Steel Magnolias and sipping lemonade, and it almost feels like home. The only thing missing is cheese grits!

But this isn't too much different than home. I thought Alabama had a lot of Civil War battlefields...this place blows Ft. Toulouse out of the water! I absolutely cannot wait to visit them all.

Well that's about it for now. The movie's getting to the good part! "Remember what Daddy always says - an ounce of pretension is worth a pound of manure!"

Love and Kisses from Britt and Matt!

Last Night in Auburn

Our truck is packed, our pup is confused and we are ready to get a move on! In less than 48 hours we'll be Virginians :)

You know what they say...Virginia is for lovers!

Packing up in Auburn

It's starting to sink in...we're leaving home. Not just our hometown, which we consider to be Auburn since we've been here for SO long, but also the South. Everything that we know is about to drastically change, for the better, but it still makes me anxious. More me than Matt, he's a military brat and knows what it's like to move.

My whole life I've felt like I wasn't meant to live in Deep South, but I find myself lately really appreciating the magnolias, the mimosas (both kinds), sweet tea, grits, Lake Martin (where we met), and the gulf coast. And I will finally admit it...I'm a southern girl. I can't believe in half a year people are going to give me unsweet tea without ice!!! How will a girl cope?! I guess I'll just have to put on my pearls and big girl panties and deal with it :)

And Samford Hall. What a sight. I've taken it for granted the past 5 years, driving past the beautiful brick symbol of our Alma Mater every day; picnics on the lawn, breaks between classes.

We met here and were married here, and for those and many other reasons, we consider Auburn our home. It's all so bittersweet.

But there are so many things we are looking forward to! Virginia is central to so many fun places! There's Williamsburg, we're only 5 hours away from Matt's dream, - aka, Cedar Point, Ohio and our friend Max (and hopefully Tressa!) in New York City. And don't you dare forget our nation's capital! Matt has never visited and I absolutely cannot wait to take him!

We are also going to try to squeeze in a quick visit to Gettysburg and Philadelphia...I sure hope we can make it!

It's also crazy thinking that we're Deutschland bound in only 6 months!!!

So here's to you Auburn. You've been our home for so long and we sure are going to miss you. And we cannot wait to come back and visit soon, and later with little ones (which we will brainwash to love you, too)! WEAGLE WEAGLE!
